Soda Ash Light
Testing Procedure of Soda Ash
Test Procedure of Soda Ash(Na2CO3)
Formula Number : Na2CO3
Molecular Weight : (23*2+12+16*3)=106
Characteristics : Clear, colorless solid.
Determination of Percentage of Soda
Ash/Purity :
Procedure-1:
a) At first we have to
weigh accurately 5.3 gm soda ash for making standard 1.0 N solution.
b) Transfer it into a
conical flask or any pot and pour 100 ml
distilled water and mix well.
c) Take 10 ml Na2CO3
solution into a conocal flask.
d) Add 2-3 drops of Methyl
Orange indicator.
e) Titration with 1.0
N Hydrochloric Acid(HCl) solution. Say A ml of HCl is end point to change
yellowish color to light pink color.
Procedure-2:
a) At first we have to
weigh accurately 10.6 gm soda ash for making standard 1.0 M solution.
b) Transfer it into a
conical flask or any pot and pour 100 ml
distilled water and mix well.
c) Take 10 ml Na2CO3
solution into a conocal flask.
d) Add 2-3 drops of Methyl
Orange indicator.
e) Titration with 1.0
N/1.0 M Hydrochloric Acid(HCl) solution. Say A ml of
HCl is end point to change yellowish color to light pink color.
Calculation-1:
Na2CO3(strength)
% =
Suppose, we need to change color 9.9 ml
HCl acid are required .
So strength of soda ash(Na2CO3)=
=99%
Calculation-2:
Na2CO3(strength)
% =
Suppose, we need to change color 19 ml HCl
acid are required .
So strength of soda ash(Na2CO3)=
=95%
Hardness Test:
Ø
At first we have to make 1.0 N solution of Soda
Ash(Na2CO3) for testing water Hardness test.
Ø
To test water Hardness it need to follow water
Hardness test procedure.
pH Test:
Ø At first we have to
make 1.0 N solution of Soda Ash(Na2CO3)for testing pH.
Ø pH is tested
by pH paper or digital pH meter
Ø Standard pH of Na2CO3 in 1.0 N
solution state is 11.4
Specific Gravity Test:
Ø
At first we have to make 1.0 N solution of Soda
Ash(Na2CO3) for testing specific Gravity.
Ø Then we check
density of Na2CO3 by
Hydrometer .
Ø Specific gravity of
Na2CO3 is =2.509.
